Roundtable Call Etiquette

Roundtable calls are the heartbeat of TheCR Network. Wondering where to find and engage with members in real time? Join a weekly call.

Not sure what to expect? Here's a handy guide for being an old pro on calls.

  • Tone: Business casual with a dash of fun and play.

  • Logistics: Once you RSVP to an event participation details will be emailed to you 24 hours before the call. There are three main tools we use for calls: conference line (audio), backchannel (chat), and join.me(screenshare). We haven't found a web conferencing tool that does the job and so we cherry pick the tools that work for us.

  • Introductions: As you join the call someone from TheCR team will welcome you and ask you to identify yourself. When everyone has arrived we will facilitate a formal round of introductions either on the conference line or in the chat depending on the number of participants. WARNING! We usually ask an ice breaker question and sometimes they are off topic. You'll probably get asked to go first. It's okay. We've all been there. Just roll with it.

  • Engage! Ask questions, politely offer a differing view point or share a story based on something being shared. The value of the calls comes when participants play an active role in the call.

  • Mute your line and your chat. It's really hard to learn with background noise. Please make it a habit to mute the chatroom which dings with each comment and mute your line when not speaking.

  • Use the chat. The backchannel is a great tool for networking and queuing up questions and discussions without interrupting the facilitator. Sometimes we go off topic, but we are also mindful to bring the conversation back to the topic at hand.

  • Be respectful. You get it.

  • Keep learning! Share what your top take-aways from the call are in the forums or work out loud [link] and share how you are applying what you learned.

  • Follow up. Look up fellow participants and add them in the network and connect on linkedin. Grow your personal learning network!
