  • Welcome note from Friday, April 22

Hello and welcome to TheCR Academy and Community Program Essentials! We have an intentionally small but fascinating group enrolled for this, the first-ever guided course version of our 8-week series, and this email is intended to lay out some of the logistics of the course. COURSE MATERIALS: The main location of the course materials is on TheCR Academy website – http://training.communityroundtable.com. Before the official start of the course, you will get an email that includes your login to this platform, which will generally be the pre-@ part of your email address and the starter password: TheCR123. Each week’s video is posted there, along with the worksheets and a short quiz for each module. The video modules are about 10 minutes long – we see the real value in the completion of the worksheets, which take the lessons of each module and let you apply them to your own use case. Use them as an opportunity to be thoughtful and creative in your own thinking about your community and your organization. If you are seeing this - you are in the course community. The plus of using this communityplatform is it gives us our own private space for sharing – not even members of TheCR and TheCR Network can access it unless specifically a part of the class – and it’s suitable for posting messages, files and other elements needed to complete the course. COURSE OFFICE HOURS: The other main interaction opportunity comes in the form of weekly office hours, which will be held online on Tuesdays from 1-2 pm ET. Three of these weekly sessions are encouraged – those on April 26, May 17 and June 14. The others are optional. The April 26 session is to walk you through logistics, questions and access. May 17, the mid-session check in, is a chance to review what we have covered so far, and get your feedback on the work you have done and the course structure. June 14 will review the second half of the course – and encourage anyone who hasn’t completed the course to do it before losing access! The office hours are less formal – a chance to gather and discuss the sessions, share ideas, and ask questions. THE WORK: The expectation in signing up and paying for this course is that you’re interested in getting it done. And the reality is that the course itself will only be as good as the willingness of the participants to share and interact. To complete the course, you are expected to: • View all eight of the video modules • Pass all eight of the (3 question!) quizzes • Complete and share in the learning group 2 of the worksheets (your choice), and review the work of your peers. This last part isn’t so anyone can “grade” you – but it comes out of the belief that completing the worksheets is a great way to internalize the work and develop items you can apply to your own community program, and that sharing your work and feedback provides a peer review and validation that can be exceptionally valuable. WHAT’S NEXT? From here, keep an eye on your email! It’s where you’ll get all your signup information, and get you set up in the group, etc. We are very excited that you have chosen to take part in our initial course offering – we look forward to your feedback and ideas, and hope you’ll find it valuable.
